Word Unscrambler

Type the letters you have. Every English word they make shows up below, longest first. Use ? for a blank tile.

How it works

The unscrambler checks your letters against the word list you pick and keeps every word you can spell without using any letter more times than you have it. The English list has about 270,000 words, and there are lists for 12 more languages. A question mark stands in for any letter, the same way a blank tile does in Scrabble or Words With Friends.

Words are grouped by length so the long, high-scoring plays are easy to spot. The small number next to each word is its Scrabble tile score in that language, before any board bonuses. Blank tiles score zero. Japanese results show the kanji and meaning instead, and Chinese results show pinyin, meaning and whether the word is an idiom (成语).

Questions

Which games is this useful for?
Scrabble, Words With Friends, Wordscapes, anagram puzzles, crosswords and any game where you build words from a fixed set of letters.
How many blanks can I use?
Up to three. More than that matches almost every word, so results stop being useful.
Why is a word I know missing?
Proper nouns, abbreviations and some very new slang aren't in the lists. Official tournament dictionaries also differ slightly from these.
Can I use other languages?
Yes. Pick a word list in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Indonesian, Japanese (kana) or Chinese (characters and idioms). Use the language menu at the top to switch the page itself to Español, Português, Français, 中文 or 日本語.
Is anything I type stored?
No. The search runs entirely in your browser and your letters are never sent anywhere. Nothing you type or choose is saved.
